Substrates

Substrates are used in two main applications:

Optical

Thin glass sheet of various specifications is used as a substrate material. Applications include displays where both electrical conductivity and anti reflection coatings may be required. Transparent substrates are also used in developing new thin film materials and technologies

Thermal / Electrical

Ceramics provide good electrical insulation and some also have very high thermal conductivities. They can be manufactured as thin sheets and profiled into accurate shapes

Their main use is for ceramic circuit boards in the microelectronics industry

Both alumina and aluminium nitride substrates are used as heat sinks for high power electronics and applications such as high intensity LED displays

Semiconductor

Quartz and borosilicate wafers
